Here’s a chance to see a local production of one of the most interesting rock and roll musicals in the world. After a successful run last year ‘Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story’ is returning to the Cameo Theatre next month.
‘Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story’ is a jukebox musical written by Alan Janes told in two acts that includes the songs of Holly and other early rockers. It is based on the life and career of Buddy Holly and tells the story of the three years during which he became one of the world’s top recording artists.
The first act revolves around his time with The Crickets and their rise to fame with songs like “Peggy Sue” and “That’ll Be the Day.” Act Two chronicles his solo career that led to his being part of the “Winter Dance Party” in 1959 that led to the plane crash that took his life as well as that of the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens.
