We all have a bucket list, a long list of things we want to do before we die. For some the list is relatively short, filled the generics that typically complete a life like marriage, 2.5 kids, a house, a nice car and a well paying job. Others want to conquer their child hood fears by climbing a high mountain, swimming a deep sea or jumping out of a plane. Still others dream of seeing the world. They dream of traveling to far off places that they have only seen on television or in books to complete their life’s journey.
Travel is an expansive activity that provides the traveler with adventure, education and experiences that can only be obtained by actually “being there” and “doing it”. There is really no substitution for touching the pink sands of Bermuda, tasting the cuisine of the Caribbean, swimming in the blue waters of the Bahamas or placing your own two feet on the Great Wall of China.
Every experience is not the same for everyone and everyone does not want the same experience, but there are 6 destinations, some wonders of the world, that should be at the top of every bucket list. These travel experiences are life changing and worth the time and expense it takes to get there.
6. The Leaning Tower of Pisa
The leaning Tower of Pisa is spectacular for many reasons. However, one of the most important facts to note is that the Tower was never meant to lean. It was built on moist/soft subsoil that proved itself insufficient before the Tower’s completion. As the Tower began to sink construction was halted. Stops and starts in construction continued. Luckily, it was finally completed. Now, The Leaning Tower of Pisa that was originally constructed as a bell tower leans at about 12 feet 10 inches off of vertical. Stand next to it and it’s a wonder that it doesn’t topple over. Stand next to it and you will see why this spectacular “accident” is so awe inspiring to gaze upon in real life.
5. The Piton Mountains of St. Lucia
The pitons are rustic and luxurious all at the same time. The Gros Piton and the Petit Piton are linked by a ridge. What’s amazing about the “mountains” is that they are actually volcanic plugs meaning that they were once a part of an active lava producing volcanic system. At the base of these mountains are hot boiling sulfur springs that give off gases. In the midst of this World Heritage site is a luxurious resort frequented by celebrities and a high end hotel offering breathtaking views.
4. Bora Bora, French Polynesia
Twelve months out of the year this island destination’s climate is heavenly perfection with temperatures of 80 or above. The name Bora Bora was an error misinterpreted by early settlers. In its midst lies two of the most fantastic spectacles of mystifying art the world has ever known. The Sistine Chapel by Michelangelo and The Pieta by Michelangelo. And this is only the beginning.
