February has arrived and means only one thing: Valentine’s Day is almost here! Valentine’s Day has always been considered a “chick holiday” with all of the hearts plus the heavy promotion of flowers and candy. For many men Valentine’s Day is the one day of the year which they dread the most. The reason is that men are not known for being instigators of romance. In fact 9 out of 10 members of the male persuasion will admit that they know more about sports than romance. What men don’t realize is in a sense, Valentine’s Day is a sporting event. Think of it, man verses man for the affection of his girl. This may sound like a dramatization but it does add that competitive spirit that men love. The only difference is that instead of a throwing a ball around a field, the player has to take his girlfriend out for a romantic dinner which she will love.

Italian restaurants and Valentine’s Day go hand-in-hand. Fort Smith has several great Italian restaurants: Bella Italia, Bravo’s and Taliano’s.
Taliano’s has been a Fort Smith tradition since 1970 when Tom Caldarera Jr. and Jim Cadelli opened the restaurant to a receptive community. Over the years the restaurant has been profiled in several magazines and won numerous awards. Taliano’s is housed in one of Fort Smith’s historic homes. The dining room is small, which creates the perfect setting for a romantic dinner on Valentine’s Day. The menu is a composite of several recipes handed down from the mothers of Taliano’s owners, both of whom have several decades of experience cooking rich Italian meals. Taliano’s is a true Italian experience and is the perfect setting for Valentine’s Day. Reservations may be made by phone or email.
Taliano’s is located at 201 N. 14th Street, Fort Smith, AR 479-785-2292.
21 West End
Women love to be wined and dined. It may be a difficult truth for some guys to swallow, but that does not change the fact. No matter how into sports she is, or whether she has her own stool at her favorite sports bar, eventually she will want to be wined and dined. The one day of the year to expect this is Valentine’s Day, so this is the time to pull out all of the stops. Those wanting to take her to an upscale restaurant need only head to 21 West End.
21 West End is reminiscent of New York’s famous Tavern on the Green. The restaurant serves menu items not found in any other restaurant in Fort Smith. Some of 21 West End’s more exotic dishes include Blackened Mahi Mahi, Cognac Pork Loin and Lobster Tail. The unique menu and the low lighted dining room make 21 West End one of the most popular restaurants for a romantic dinner. Word to the wise: like other upscale restaurants, 21 West End is pricey. However the whole point of a Valentine’s Day dinner is to wow that special lady, so even if it costs an arm and a leg 21 West End is guaranteed to impress her. Due to the popularity of 21 West End, a reservation may be required. Reservations may be made by phone or email.
21 West End is located at 21 N. 2nd Street, Fort Smith, AR 479-434-4213.
Fort Smith has several restaurants that serve Italian cuisine, however for a true taste of Italy the only place to go is Downtown Fort Smith.
For many years, there were only two Italian restaurants downtown. This year there is a third Italian restaurant ready to serve couples a delicious meal this Valentine’s Day. Bravo’s moved from its previous location on Rogers Avenue to the corner of 5th Street and Garrison Avenue. The move occurred because owner Jim Webb wanted the restaurant closer to his other establishment Webby D’s. The new location is smaller which helps to create a cozier atmosphere for its customers. While the location has changed the menu still features those great Italian dishes that has made Bravo’s successful. This year take her to Bravo’s for a truly romantic Valentine’s Day dinner.
Bravo’s is located at 10 S. 5th Street, Fort Smith, AR 479-226-3254.
