Jan. 22-26: Military Museum of Fort Worth, open 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday, 712 Dorothy Lane, Fort Worth, 76107. Admission is free. Closed major holidays. The museum focus is the military as it pertains to Texas veterans. The museum presents military artifacts and the stories about them in order to educate the public. Jan. 22-26: Texas Civil War Museum is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday, closed major holidays, 760 Jim Wright Freeway North, Fort Worth, 76108. Adult admission is $6, students ages 7-12 are $3 and children 6 and under are free with adult admission. This is the largest Civil War museum west of the Mississippi. Jan. 23: Jewish Special Interest Group for genealogy will meet from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the J. Erk Jonsson Central Library in Dallas. This month’s meeting will feature a demonstration of Google Translate’s new features and reviewing everyone’s genealogy brick walls.

Jan. 26: Fort Worth Genealogical Society hosts first session in the Beginners Workshop series, “How to Get Started and Organizational Hints.” The Beginners Workshop is a series of eight free presentations open to the public, offered the fourth Saturday (not the last Saturday) of the month from January through August. Workshops held at the Fort Worth Public Library (main downtown branch) from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Now: Dallas Genealogical Society actively seeking articles for launch of new scholarly journal, “Pegasus: Journal of the Dallas Genealogical Society.” They will pay authors whose articles are accepted. The journal will be published spring 2013. Guidelines for submission and information about payment are available.

Through April 30, 2013: HOGAR de Dallas, a Spanish genealogical organization, will award one scholarship of $1,000 to a high school graduating senior who submits a pedigree chart and essay that follows the assigned criteria. Essay will be published in HOGAR journal.
