With all of the busy weekends recently, it’s nice that this one is kind of quiet yet has some great events.
“Pageant” the musical will likely filling the house due to its short run. This is a musical spoof with drag performers all trying to be the next Miss Glamouresse. I’ve seen past productions and loved the way some select audience members become judges, so a different queen is picked each night. Hope that fun aspect continues with this production as well as the funny spokesmodel category. This is more than LOL – it’s LSOIU – laughing so hard I untucked!
Only here a few weeks so get tickets and information at www.robbie-wayne-productions.com.
“Hedwig and the Angry Inch” has been more than inching along at the Boxcar Theatre. I’ve talked about it so much that I am sure you too are surprised it’s still here. I saw it in the summer and am going back tomorrow to see the return of Jason Brock, who will also do an after-show cabaret act. Wow – two shows for the price of one and you are guaranteed the most exciting night as director Nick Olivero will have it no other way. Jason in the show through this weekend but it will still go on with a great cast. Get information at www.boxcartheatre.org.
For something sort of new, “The Lisbon Traviata” just returned to San Francisco. It’s been years since this Terence McNally show played the city and it actually is really one of the most undiscovered gems in theatre. I saw it so long ago that I think Lincoln was president and a young Nathan Lane played the lead. It’s smart, sassy and funny – really a great show and is at the New Conservatory Theatre Centre for the next month. Get tickets and information at www.nctcsf.org. One thing you have to love about the NCTC (besides the shows) is they always have a “pay what you wish” night so people who can’t always afford theatre have the opportunity to go.
And hey bears – I saw the promotional stills for “Lisbon” and there is some furry, sexy men. It looks like fur will fly and I want to be there to catch it! Also, I had a blast last week guesting on the Bear Element podcast – check it out on iTunes or www.bearelement.com. We talked about the Oscars, the bear friendly Hotel Mark Twain, Girl Scout cookies and measuring anuses!
