It was announced today, Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, that Academy Award winner Barbra Streisand will perform live at the upcoming Oscars telecast on Feb. 24. Barbra Streisand has only sung once before at the Oscars and that performance was on March 28, 1977. Barbra sang one of her most successful hits “Evergreen” from her film “A Star is Born.”
Barbara Streisand won her first Oscar in 1969 for her breakout performance in “Funny Girl.” She was nominated for Best Actress for her role in “The Way We Were” in 1974, but loss to Glenda Jackson for her performance in “A Touch of Class.” Barbra took home her second Oscar the night she performed “Evergreen” as the song won Best Song in a Motion Picture and Barbra was a co-writer with Paul Williams. She also been nominated for producing “The Prince of Tides” in 1992 and writing the nominated Best Song “I Finally Found Someone” from the film “The Mirror Has Two Faces.” The song was co-written with Marvin Hamlisch, Robert John Lange and Bryan Adams.
“In an evening that celebrates the artistry of movies and music,” said producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, “how could the telecast be complete without Barbra Streisand? We are honored that she has agreed to do a very special performance on this year’s Oscars, her first time singing on the show in 36 years.”
Streisand hit the road this summer for a very small tour “Back To Brooklyn” which ended at the Hollywood Bowl. I was lucky to get seats to this rare event as this was Streisand’s 96th live concert. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that her vocal abilities were still intact and her concert was a marvelous evening. Now, it appears that Barbra is eager to share her voice again on one of film’s most prestigious nights – the Oscars.
No word today, as to what song Streisand will be singing – perhaps one of the Oscar-nominated songs of the year?
The 85th Annual Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, March 24 and will be held at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center. The night will be hosted by Seth MacFarlane live on ABC and will be televised in more than 225 countries worldwide.

Whatever your movie choice this week, please remember your movie theater etiquette: silence your cell phones and no texting, please don’t talk during the film and remove your children if they become a distraction to other audience members. Don’t forget that laughing, crying and cheering are always approved behavior and even encouraged.
