Thanks to the Ballet in Cinema series, another wonderful ballet from far away is coming to the KiMo Theatre live in simulcast. Choreographer Wayne MacGregor has revamped this modern ballet for the Bolshoi Ballet.
The ballet Rite of Spring was originally created in a collaboration between composer Igor Stravinsky and Vaslav Nijinsky and first performed in Paris by the Ballets Russes. This ballet was revolutionary in the fact that it abandoned a lot of the elements of classical ballet including turned-out feet and soundless steps. The ballet is also the story of a pagan sacrifice which was not a theme in other ballets at the time.
