Arrow is back on track with a rock solid episode that stirs the pot. A reemergence of a past villain with crazed potential and an assassination plot ready to shake up the series, Arrow’s latest episode, “Betrayal” packs a wallop of excitement! Last week’s Arrow episode ended with Moira Queen prepping an assassination plot against Malcolm Merlyn with the help of China White and the Triad.
This week steps up a notch by inviting the tension between Tommy and his father Malcolm. With an assassination plot planned around Malcolm’s award ceremony, Tommy has the hard decision to make of whether he should attend the event or not. After Tommy opens up to Oliver about his lack of a father, Ollie provides insight into why Tommy should try to embrace his father.
After abandoning the captive shipwrecked man, in fear of him being of danger, Oliver stumbles with his role alongside of Slade Wilson. Not soon after he stumbles upon the broken plane radio as his only bit of solace. Slade’s ridicule helps lead Oliver’s determination to fixing the radio. With enough tinkering, he manages to establish the radio as a functioning device with the flaws of having no way to communicate, merely listen from conversation to conversation.
A gala event in honor of Malcolm Merlyn has Tommy in attendance. With a coordinated attack planned by China White and the Triad, there is one piece missing to the puzzle; the trigger man. Who better to add to the plot for the kill shot; none other than Floyd Lawton himself. Yes Deadshot returns to Arrow missing an eye, yet now garnering a sleek and much better eye piece courtesy of White and the gang.
Oliver and McKenna Hall’s relationship continues to flourish, yet with both living double lives, their time together continues to be strained leaving one to wonder if the end is nearing. Thanks to Felicity, Oliver discovers Malcolm Merlyn is the targeted man causing for a dismissal of McKenna to rescue not only Malcolm, but Tommy who decided to stand by his father’s side on his big night.
With mass chaos occurring at the gala, the Vigilante manages to protect the Merlyns. Although in the process, mass confusion hits Malcolm as he sees his arch enemy save his life. The fight many have been waiting for between China White and Green Arrow heads to a full out brawl. Yet to save the day is McKenna’s brisk police work to disrupt the skirmish between the duo.
Curare laced bullets splinter through Merlyn’s bullet proof vest thrusting the Vigilante and Tommy to work together to save a life. Reluctant to listen to Arrow, he must reveal his true identity to convince Tommy of the steps to save his father’s life. A on the spot blood transfusion from Tommy to Malcolm leads to not only saving Merlyn, but growing the father-son bond.
“Dead to Rights” ends with gritty plot lines waiting to unfold for the viewers. From Malcolm asking Moira to find the traitor in their midst and Malcolm slowly opening up about his secret identity as The Dark Archer tosses the Merlyn family into a chilling ride. McKenna and Oliver deciding to grow their relationship or Diggles’ understanding of Oliver’s failure to kill Deadshot sends John into a concerned state. Though the biggest shocker comes when Laurel’s mother returns to voice concern of how Sara may not be dead. Each of these plot points provides the perfect backdrop for the remaining episodes.
“Dead to Rights” helped Arrow hit the bull’s eye by providing an essential and emotional episode. The relationship between Tommy and Malcolm grows, which complicates the system between Oliver and Tommy. Thought the episode continues the spiral down of how dangerous Malcolm is and builds up the epic return of The Dark Archer! With a showdown between Oliver and China White, The Dark Archer rearing it’s chaotic terror, or Deadshot, Arrow finally packs a punch with villains this week!
Same time next week, Arrow squares off against The Huntress who will make her first appearance in quite some time. Stay tuned for more!
