Constitutional Libertarianism is the belief that every individual is entitled to maximum freedom and liberty by divine birthright. It is also the belief that regular persistent Government impedance in the everyday life of “The People” is un necessary and un warranted. It can be defined as a movement that celebrates liberty and promulgates the governing of a nation by the freedom of its people as opposed to the restriction of them; and the liberty of the government. It does not completely oppose government but asserts that the government’s role is to defend a nation’s borders, regulate currency and to facilitate good order so that the people may be free to pursue liberty, property and commerce. The Constitutional Libertarian lives by and believes in the founding documents of the United States; The Constitution and The Bill of Rights.
The 2012 re-election of Barrack Obama set a new standard of where America stands politically and idealistically. Assuming the election was not rigged or interfered with in any way, one can draw from inference that America has long since drifted away from the center – right where it has traditionally been known to have sat. The day after election, news pundits everywhere were planting the seed of the idea that if the Republican Party ever wanted to win an election again; they would have to embrace more leftist views and ideals from the Democrat Party. The constant theme was that Republicans were too old, rich and white. The plan that was laid out was to appeal to illegal immigrants, minorities, gay and lesbian crowds and prochoice advocates. Simply stated, stated they would have to become liberal.
What many Americans seem to forget however is that there is already very little difference between Republican and Democrat parties. As a true Constitutionalist who has taken the oath under God to protect and defend the Constitution and it’s Bill of Rights against all enemies foreign and domestic; this writer has studied history and researched the origins of the great American nation. The Republican and Democrat Paradigm must have been created to demonstrate the illusion of choice. Interestingly the Democrat Party has taken on several associations; the liberals and progressives amongst the most common.
If one were to take the very term “Liberal” at literal value, it could be related to liberty or freedom. Unfortunately the term liberal stems from the progressives of the late 18 and early 19 hundreds. The rapid growth of industrialism in America brought with it a series of social and economic issues. The Progressives rejected Capitalism and Industrialism and equated it to a form of Social Darwinism in efforts to instill a more socialist-esque big government ran society. The Progressives were typically college educated upper level society members that believed they were the intelligent class responsible for making the decisions of the lower, poor or proletariat classes.
Simply put Capitalists, Industrialist and entrepreneurs were considered to be too greedy and power hungry. Therefore the Progressives in their upper educated infinite wisdom decided that the government must control and regulate business to prevent the corporate greed and corruption. The Progressives believed that the average working class man and woman were too unintelligent to make their own decisions and thus emphasized their efforts in community organizing to encourage the lower class to vote for Progressive elected officials. Along with the idea of government controlled and regulated business, they pushed for more immigrants in the workforce and propagated that Americans who were protective of their nations jobs and borders against illegal immigrants were simply xenophobes and hateful.
The progressives pushed the idea that government knows best for the greater good. Products of Progressivism are The Income Tax, the IRS, The Federal Reserve, Eugenics policies (The very same Eugenics policy that inspired Hitler’s Eugenics policy), The FCC and the Food and Drug Administration. The Progressives were statists and elitist collectivists that believed in the idea of a utopian society. They did not believe in the Constitution as it was originally written and viewed it as a living document, one that should be changed with the ages.
It wasn’t until after World War II that the American people had their fill with Progressives. F.D.R. a major Progressive who pushed the nanny state and even wanted a new constitution drafted; caused many Americans to reject Progressivism. The rejection of Progressive and statist ways led the Progressives to regroup and re package their efforts dressed and labeled as the liberals. The Liberals, not to be confused with Libertarians are simply a kinder more gentle form of Progressivism. It is the Liberal movement which has infiltrated primarily the Democrat Party up until recent years. Barrack Obama has brought new life into the Progressives once more. Today’s Progressives lay claim to their heroes such as Woodrow Wilson and F.D.R. yet have backgrounds from The Communist Party USA, The New Party Socialists and the Green Party.
As a Libertarian, whether one chooses to be gay, lesbian, to abort or not to is completely the right of that individual. It is the obligation and duty of the Federal, State and Local government to protect and ensure those rights. There is a place and duty for government, but government can be equated to a bacteria. Certain bacteria are helpful to maintaining a healthy body, as long as they are moderated. Like bacteria, government; any government will feed and feed, taking more and more as it grows larger and larger. Government can be as gluttonous as any bacteria in that it may grow to infectious, cancerous proportions, growing larger by the moment just to secure and justify its own existence until it has taken everything from the body which it feeds from and has become a fatal disease. If one can understand this concept then they can also understand that government itself should be limited and well regulated long before it grows to the point of consumption.
The paradigm as it may be explained must propagate the idea that only two parties can exist. All other theologies and ideologies must be associated or conglomerated by one of the main two. Often times Constitutionalist Libertarians are grouped into the Republican Party. Unfortunately both the Republican and Democrats of the US insinuate that Libertarians are the opposite of their own political beliefs. The Libertarian is a threat to both parties. The prime example of the grand illusion is the Bush – Obama polar opposite scheme. The fact is Obama and the “leftists” push the idea that Bush was some type of war mongering Nazi, the fact is Obama has not endeavored to falter off the trail that Bush blazed. They only denigrate the previous president to create the illusion of difference. It is the Ron Pauls of the nation that they fear. Neither Boehner or Reed and Pelosi have extremely different agendas; they simply choose to play the people against one another. Both Republicans and Democrats use Social and Class warfare as the tools of their trade to further their agendas. War has been used throughout history as a tool to manipulate the masses to concede to a politician’s political agenda. Men such as Leo Berman of Tyler Texas (retired) and Ron Paul, challenge the system as the people should and this makes both the Republicans and Democrats fearsome of a true Libertarian candidate. This can best be seen by the media blackout of Mr. Paul in the 2012 primaries.
The United States post 2012 election is one that clearly defines America, no longer as the famed American Experiment that showed liberty can be attained and maintained by a society, but the failed experiment, that has fallen to a social and morally degenerated populous. The argument to the second amendment is the best example of this. The question should not be whether or not to disarm the populace, but how to educate and develop an inherent sense of moral and social responsibility. Guns are not the issue in this once great nation rich in gun history. The issue here is a society that does not want to be responsible for their own actions. We have succumbed to the nanny state and are well on our way to a police state. Americans are being criminalized for everything from their political stance to naturally occurring chemicals produced in their own body.
Where Libertarians must endeavor from here is the grass roots community organizing which the Alinsky Liberals and Progressives have so successfully done. We must educate, emphasize the events and repercussions of our own national history. We must use political fusion as did the Progressives, Socialists and Communists to propel their way into the American Political landscape. We must not accept the mainstream media and instead do as our founding forefathers did by creating and distributing our own media. Lastly we must remain true to and stand by The Constitution and Bill of Rights.
In summary, America is headed downward on a slippery slope. As always there is a choice, and it is what we THE PEOPLE do with that choice that will define us as a nation in the years, decades and centuries that lay ahead. As an American citizen, a combat veteran who has served liberty and as a patriot, this writer cannot stand by idle as the greatest nation on earth falls apart and crumbles into the abyss of history and great fallen empires. It is time that we reflect upon our nation’s past, learn from the challenges other great leaders have faced and continue on with our birthright as the only nation in history to have ever known true freedom.
