What would you do if $11,000 dollars fell out of an armored truck in front of you and the truck kept going with not a soul around to witness the event? Would you keep the money or give it back? According to Yahoo News on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, Pat Wesner of Salem, New York didn’t even think about it and called 911 to report the mishap.
Not only did she report the $11,000 that fell out of the truck, she waited for a state trooper to show up and then helped him pick up the money. The cash was in dollar bills except for $50 in pennies, so that was quite a bit to retrieve off the road. Pat said the bag fell in front of her and money sprayed out into the road like rays of sunshine!
Pat, who works for a non-profit and is a married mother of four, could have really used the money, her friends said. She has a son in college, another son deployed to Afghanistan, a daughter and a son, who is disabled and needs daily care. The thought of taking money that wasn’t hers didn’t entice Pat, who did what many might not have done, especially when there was no one else around to see the money fall or to see it sitting in the middle of the road.
Pat said she did have a good laugh with the state trooper as the two picked up the money from the road. Even putting a dollar bill in her pocket that didn’t belong to her is something that is just not in Pat’s personality. The money fell off a Brinks truck and the state police notified the company and returned the road cash back to its rightful owner. Hopefully the company rewards Pat for a good deed that most people would not have done.
